POLITICS – Latest update as the Peoples Democratic Party has criticised Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State for his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja and comments on herdsmen attacks.
The Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Plateau State, John Akans, in a statement on Friday, faulted the governor’s claim that Plateau had started a ranching policy of the Federal Government.
But Lalong, in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs in Government House, Emmanuel Nanle, said his comment “was taken out of context and completely misquoted when his response on peer review of policies with his counterpart from neighbouring state was responded to in the affirmative.”
The PDP said, “All these have exposed Governor Lalong as a person who has sold his conscience and does not care about the today and tomorrow of his people or those of his brothers and sisters in neighbouring states and Nigeria at large.
“It is unfortunate that our Lalong chose to exhibit a deep sense of ill-will towards a colleague and brother by choosing to berate him in public, even as they claim to be of the same political party and agenda.”
According to him, Lalong, “in an attempt to impress his boss and host, exhibited un-statesmanly characteristics and described the mindless killing of innocent people in their homes as “clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers” rather than condemning the killers.
Recall that Lalong claimed that he restored peace in Plateau State within three months of assuming office and dismissed of the killings over the last three months in the Barkin Ladi, Ryom and Bassa Local Government Areas of Plateau.
